Interior design and home decor lovers strive for beautiful, personal spaces. The choices of colors, textures, furniture pieces, and accessories are meticulously made. Quite often the appealing results are immortalized in photo shootings. However there is often one piece in the living room that troubles the visual harmony: the TV. Often cut out of photos, hidden, or simply removed, this big ‘black box’ has been a challenge for most interior designers and home decorators. But those times are gone. Samsung has recently launched a TV called ‘The Frame’. And the name is not only promising, it is a revelation for interiors!

For the first time it is possible to seamlessly integrate a TV into an interior concept. With ‘The Frame’ the TV gets a whole new visual appearance in your home. Not only you get to choose a customized frame to fit your interior style, but you can also use the TV in art mode. What does this mean? It means that your TV turns into a decorative piece of art to enhance your interior style. And art mode does not mean choosing among five options like for a simple screensaver. It means truly art mode. With a wide variety of photography, graphic art, paintings, and even a whole line up of collaborations with world famous museums and galleries (as part of an additional Art Store) you can truly make your TV a statement piece in your home. Have I mentioned you can also simply use one of your fab pictures as art?

‘The Frame’ offers also different options how to be presented: Like a classical art piece mounted on your wall (maybe as part of a gallery wall?), with the normal stand on a sideboard or with an additional studio stand, a gallery like tripod. So when I had to make my choices it was pretty clear: I opted for a walnut design frame and a studio stand. And what about the art? I gave it a thought and wanted to create an ‘urban jungle’ camouflage scenery. You know, where the TV actually becomes part of your urban jungle. So lots of plants and one of my snapshots from Tulum in Mexico combined resulted in a green corner.

Now who can spot the TV? Ha! It is truly seamlessly integrated in my little urban jungle, isn’t it? The best part is that in art mode the TV regulates its brightness according to the light situation and a motion sensor simply switches off the art mode when nobody is around for a while. Smart and pretty cool.

As much as I enjoy my urban jungle camouflage situation, I also enjoy watching a good movie on this amazing screen. For the first time I have the impression of having a real home cinema at home. But that is another story. For the time being let’s play ‘find the TV in the jungle’! I am exploring!

I hope those of you who celebrated Christmas had a wonderful time. Now we have a few days in between the festivities with New Year’s Eve approaching soon. So I thought I return to blogging with a new contribution for my blog series ‘People who inspire me’. Today I want to introduce you to a cool guy from Germany named Sebastian Wilop. His home and plant addiction is a constant source of inspiration for me. See for yourself.

I have e-met Sebastian on Instagram where he is regularly sharing peeks into his green home. His love for plants, vintage furniture, ethnic patterns caught my eye from the first moment. Additionally he keeps posting cool places that he discovers on-the-go which makes his Instagram account additionally attractive.

One of his most popular rooms is the living room. Spacious, filled with light, and chosen vintage pieces and a striking kilim rug it constantly inspires and gives new ideas. The lush plants are another highlight of course. But I will not blabber too much about evident things. You can see it for yourself – go and check out Sebastian’s Instagram account. Happy quiet days!

My Xmas Playlist: Music Makes You Happy

Christmas playlist, Libratone, Libratone Zipp speaker, wifi speaker, music

All I want for Christmas is…a good Xmas playlist for the perfect festive atmosphere! Well now that I am settling in into my new home, it is time to get into the festive mood – last minute if you want so. I am a pretty old-fashioned chap when it comes to Christmas tunes I am afraid, so do not expect something too fancy and experimental. But if you like the good old classics, you will enjoy it together with me – cause music makes you happy!

Christmas playlist, Libratone, Libratone Zipp speaker, wifi speaker, music

In December I usually get totally into the cheerful spirit of Christmas. I watch old Christmas movies, listen to Christmas classics, and decorate my home – not too much but a tad here and there. This year was different with my move in December. Now that most of the things are finished and done, I can slowly slide into the jolly spirit of the festive season. The Christmas tree is (almost) ready, it is snowing, so now it’s time for some good music.

Since my new home is double the size of my old apartment, I needed a solution to stream my music from room to room. For this challenge I have teamed up with Libratone. My cool and stylish solution has a fancy name: the Libratone ZIPP speaker. This portable beauty comes in various colours thus it fits any interior style. I have opted for a grey speaker in the living room and a dark blue speaker for the bedroom. You can stream your music via Bluetooth or use it as a multi-room WiFi speaker and stream your Spotify playlist for example. Pretty cool, right?

But enough preparation talk – let’s get to the music! Now here we go with my little (traditional) Xmas playlist. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do – whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukkah, or nothing at all. With some festive tunes everything is so much nicer in December. Because music makes you happy! Ho, ho, ho!

Where to buy vintage furniture?

It is no secret that I am moving to a bigger apartment. Right now I am in the moving process and I am also sourcing new pieces for the future home. I am a huge fan of vintage furniture and one question came quickly to my mind: where to buy vintage furniture? I mean nice pieces that do not cost a fortune! Another challenge: I do not have the time to travel the world and rummage through vintage shops, thrift stores, and fleamarkets. So I knew the solution must lie within the world wide web. But how to structure your search in the endless universe of the internet? All these questions and concerns were answered when I stumbled upon a new site: Pamono.

Pamono is a Berlin based online marketplace and magazine that sources unique design objects with a history. Doesn’t that sound much better than simply vintage furniture? I think it does. Pamono offers a huge portfolio of beautiful design objects from past periods – from furniture, over lighting, to accessories. Pamono is truly a sort of treasure trove for vintage lovers like me! However I must admit I knew Pamono even before the move. Because I already scored a wonderful vintage teak sideboard from Denmark for my old apartment. This beauty is moving into the new place of course. But I was on the search for new items too. And I was successful. Again.

For the new apartment I was looking for a beautiful vintage bar cart and dining table. Pamono was just perfect for the hunt! I found a beautiful teak bar cart from the 1960s from Denmark. And I scored a wonderful round dining table from Ercol – the Drop Leaf Table. This is also a design piece from the 1960s and designed by Lucian Ercolani for Ercol. Both pieces arrived in the meantime and look fabulous all by themselves as the rest is not yet furnished and styled. But patience is key in creating a new home!

In a nutshell I can say: Pamono is a fab source for vintage shopping! Three times I was out and about to find vintage pieces, and three times I was successful on Pamono! I truly recommend you have a look next time you are searching for a vintage piece. Additionally different filters help you customize your search (style, period, price range, etc.) and thus make your hunt an efficient and successful one. Try it, you won’t regret it!

People who inspire me: Starkstromhippie

I am constantly surprised how much creativity is out there. When I check my Instagram account, I stumble upon one inspiring image after the other. Hence I recently started my blog series ‘People who inspire me’. And today I want to introduce you to yet another inspiring person and her Instagram account: Please meet ‘Starkstromhippie’. The creative mind behind this account and cool name is Astrid. Astrid runs a creative agency and is a fond lover of vintage, plants, and interior design. All of these resonate with me so no wonder I love her account. But judge for yourself!

Whenever I see a new pic of Astrid on my Instagram feed, I feel like this could be my home too. A lived-in mix of vintage furniture, plants galore, moody light – all of this is really what I love too. We also share the same love for earthy colours and textures, a good cup of coffee, and ethnic textiles. It also helps that Astrid has very good looks! Not to mention that our Urban Jungle book is part of her home. Happy me!

Astrid is based in Cologne, Germany, and shares regular bits of her daily life. I like the fact that her pictures are not staged, not styled for Instagram. They are just the way they are. Which makes her account so authentic and inspiring. I mean isn’t that what we all look for – inspiration that comes from a real life? Staged images and styled rooms I can see in glossy interior magazines. But on Instagram I prefer the real shit – excuse my language! It just felt adequate here:-)

I won’t blabber too much. I think her pictures speak for themselves. I can only invite you to check out her Instagram account ‘Starkstromhippie’ and follow her along. I promise a daily dose of inspiration for you interior, vintage, and plant lovers out there! Have fun!
