New England Home I mentioned on Instagram the other day that I love to see a room filled with books. I love rooms with books that are not just for show, but because the owners of the room actually love books. I think books give a room character and a story to tell. But somewhere along the way someone decided books […]

Well hello again! The Urban Jungle Bloggers styling topics are back! As announced we have switched to seasonal topics and today we are celebrating spring with ‘New Beginnings’. I have decided to gather my plants, new and old, in one spot and insert some flowers to welcome spring in my home.
Usually my plants are scattered around my home and I like the green bits and pieces everywhere. But when I group them together it is really a fantastic impact. Even though it is not a huge plant gang, but grouped on my vintage bureau it is a nice sight, isn’t it? Moreover, it is not only the variety and amount of plants. It is also the mix of plant pots, sizes, foliages that creates so much vibrancy and interest.
But let’s speak about some new beginnings among my plants. Most evidently I am very happy about the new leaves growing on my Begonia maculata. The plant suffered quite a lot as it was a prop for a bigger styling project and traveled from one place to another in a plastic bag. When it arrived in my home it was literally devastated. Every leaf was broken or injured, and I doubted if it will make it at all. But look now! Truly new beginnings!
I am also very happy with the growth of my cacti, the jewel orchid, the string of hearts and more. Even one of my Tillandsia airplants is flowering! On the other hand I was totally sad to realize that my pink Calathea was infested with what I think are mealybugs. Oy! I’ll try my best to cure it but I am totally afraid that it will infect other plants. So for now she must live in quarantine. But apart from that: I am very happy with my plants! And how sweet is the postcard I received from my Urban Jungle Bloggers buddy Judith? I am in love with it!

While kitchen remodels and other big projects are exciting, what I love most of all is the simplicity of puttering. Puttering is easy, it doesn’t involve much money or effort. It’s rewarding to see instant changes and to have the opportunity to recharge your creativity. Puttering is not stressful or overwhelming, it’s enjoyable. I love that I can […]

The appliances were provided in partnership with KitchenAid® When I started planning our kitchen remodel, I felt a mix of being so excited about all the possibilities and also so overwhelmed by the possibilities. There are countless decisions to make with a remodel, especially when you’re starting from scratch. When you’re excited and hopeful for a great end result, every decision feels […]

Oh guess what – Mother’s Day is coming! Yes I know, Mother’s Day is on different dates in various countries, but here in Germany and in quite a few more countries it is mid May. I don’t know if you offer a present to your mum at that day but I as a true Urban Jungle Blogger, I prefer to offer plants to my mum. Luckily she is a plant lover so I know I won’t disappoint. Now many prefer to offer flowers so here comes a good compromise: How about offering potted hydrangeas instead?
For today’s post I have teamed up with the folks of ‘Forever & Ever’, a plant brand from the Netherlands. They grow special new purple hydrangeas and they deserve the name ‘Forever & Ever’ because they keep blooming from the first year and then on and on – forever and ever if you want so. And another great advantage: Hydrangeas are really easy to care for. Regular watering and some plant food every now and then and they will be happy!
Hydrangeas are not indoor plants. So these are best kept in buckets or other outdoor planters on the balcony or in the garden. For those among you with private gardens, you can also plant them in the garden and keep them thriving in nature. And for all you interior styling fans: Keep dried up hydrangea flowers in tall vases – they look sublime for little interior vignettes!
So what about these beautiful purple hydrangeas for your mum at Mother’s Day? I think my choice is made! The ‘Forever & Ever’ hydrangeas are available from mid March through September in various garden centers – have a look here for close retailers. And you can spot them easily in the garden center: They sit in vibrant purple plant pots!
This blog post has been brought to you in collaboration with ‘Forever & Ever’. As always all opinions and photos are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands who support this blog!
